A 36-year-old man is in serious condition after a fire in Lowertown, and 21 people are now homeless.
In all, eight men and 13 women have been displaced and are being assisted by Victim Services. All 10 apartments in the building were deemed not habitable.
Firefighters were called to 33 Heney Street around 11:40 p.m. Sunday on reports of smoke.
When firefighters arrived, everyone had evacuated the 10-unit, three-storey apartment building, which stands opposite MacDonald Gardens Park.
The fire was declared under control by 12:12 a.m. Monday.
Ottawa Paramedics say the 36-year-old man in serious condition was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being taken the hospital. No firefighters were hurt battling the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
