There is only one week left to sign up to run in Ottawa’s municipal election.
Nominations (and withdrawals) will be accepted until July 27 at 2:00 p.m.
As of July 17, seven people have been nominated to run for mayor: Hamid Alakozai, Bernard Couchman, Ryan Lythall, Craig MacAulay, Michael Pastien, Moises Schachtler, and incumbent Jim Watson.
Two city wards feature incumbent councillors who, as of July 19, are running unopposed. In Ward 11, Beacon Hill–Cyrville, incumbent Tim Tierney is the only nominated candidate. The same goes for Michael Qaqish in Ward 22, Gloucester–South Nepean.
Councillors Bob Monette (Ward 1, Orléans) Jody Mitic (Ward 2, Innes), Marianne Wilkinson (Ward 4, Kanata North) and Mark Taylor (Ward 7, Bay) have said they are not seeking re-election, so those wards are guaranteed to have new councillors in the fall.
Election Day is October 22.
