Faculty at Ontario's 24 public colleges have voted 68 per cent in favour of a strike mandate.
The collective agreement between Colleges and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) expires at the end of September.
12,000 professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians province-wide are covered under the agreement.
The union says their key issues include the role of faculty in academic decision-making and fair treatment for contract faculty.
"Eighty-one per cent of college teaching is done by contract faculty, all of whom have no job security and are paid significantly less than the negotiated rates for full-time permanent faculty," an OPSEU press release says.
Two colleges locally are affected by this: Algonquin College and La Cité Collegiale.
So far, no strike or lockout deadline has been set.
