The president of the Ottawa Police Association said it's going to be a difficult time for his rank-and-file members, as a criminal investigation is launched into allegations of evidence tampering by senior police officers.
Police Chief Charles Bordeleau has asked the OPP to investigate the claims.
The allegations stem from the SIU investigation into the June 2014 tactical training explosion that left five emergency responders injured, two of them seriously.
Charges against three police officers connected with the exercise were stayed last September, but one of their lawyers requested the investigation after reviewing the evidence offered by the Crown.
"This is not going to be easy to experience for our membership to experience, because these are leaders of our organization with a lot of influence," Matt Skof told "The Morning Rush."
Skof said Chief Bordeleau made the right move in asking the OPP to investigate.
"It would be very difficult to have subordinates investigating leaders," he said.
"So the approriate venue is to have the OPP come in."
