Ontario Provincial Police say charges have been laid against the driver of one of the cars involved in Friday morning’s pileup on the Queensway.
Two cars collided on Highway 417 eastbound near Greenbank and Pinecrest at around 8:30 a.m. One of the cars then crashed into an OC Transpo bus that was in the slow lane.
Police say there were no injuries, though Ottawa Paramedics say they responded to reports of neck and shoulder pain at the time.
Troy Charter, the director of transit operations at the City of Ottawa, says in a statement none of the passengers on the Route 269 bus were hurt and they were all safely brought onto another bus to continue on their way. Route 269 is the same route that was involved in January’s deadly crash at Westboro station. Friday’s incident involved the eastbound morning bus from Kanata to downtown. OC Transpo announced last month the number would be retired during the next schedule update and will become 257 going forward.
OPP say Christopher Bernier, 27, has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
The crash shut down all but one lane of the Queensway for the last part of the morning rush hour before being cleared at around 9:15 a.m.
