Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers, switching to winter tires in the coming days, to make sure their wheels are secure.
This comes after a pick-up truck lost a wheel while driving on the 417 E/B near Riverside Sunday evening.
Police say the rear-left wheel came loose around 6:18 p.m., and bounced into oncoming lanes, hitting two other vehicles, causing them to crash. No one was hurt, but the crashes caused “extensive damage.”
Police say it appears lug nuts were loose, causing the wheel to detach itself from the truck.
A similar incident took place on the evening of November 1, on the 174, near Jeanne D'Arc. According to Ottawa Police, a vehicle’s wheel had come loose and bounced into the road around 7:00 p.m., causing four cars to crash. Damage to the vehicles in that case was minor and no one was hurt.
