Quebec provincial police say a 43-year-old Orléans man is facing charges in connection with a Canada Day incident on the Gatineau River that has left an Ottawa woman with critical injuries.
26-year-old Casey Delaney was placed into a medically-induced coma after being hit by a jetski while floating on an inflatable island with some friends near Bouchette, Que.
Police say two jetskis approached and one driver attempted to splash the people on the inflatable island, but while attempting to do so, Delaney was hit. The drivers of the jetskis then fled the scene.
The Sûreté du Québec announced Thursday that a suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
The accused, Robin Golby, appeared in a Gatineau courtroom Thursday where he was charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of a crash causing bodily harm, and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
He's been released on a promise to appear in court August 6. He's under conditions that include not driving any kind of vehicle and not contacting or coming near 10 people, including Delaney.
Golby is a Canadian Forces Corporal who works as a storesman and driver. DND says it will allow the judicial process to run its course before deciding his future with the military.
