The Ottawa 67s say they’ve picked up a top goalie in a trade with the Windsor Spitfires.
The OHL team announced Tuesday it has acquired Michael DiPietro from Windsor, in exchange for Yegor Afanasyev from Ottawa, along with four second-round draft picks and three conditional picks.
DiPietro, 19, was a third-round selection of the Vancouver Canucks in 2017.
The 67s describe the trade as “one of the biggest” in the team’s modern history.
DiPietro’s record includes 75 wins and 41 losses with the Spitfires from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
"Michael DiPietro is a tremendous competitor whose team and personal accomplishments are well-documented,” said 67’s General Manager James Boyd in a press release. “Our fans will appreciate Michael’s character and work ethic. We’re excited with the outstanding goaltending depth this acquisition provides our team moving forward.”
DiPietro has also been named to Team Canada's selection camp roster ahead of the 2019 World Junior Championship.
The Ottawa 67s are currently atop the OHL standings.
