The Ottawa Hospital has been hit with a surge in suspected fentanyl overdose cases over the last two days, and there have been more than a dozen drug overdoses in the last three days.
In a written statement, the hospital says five patients were sent to the Civic campus' trauma centre while two more were admitted at the General over the past 48 hours.
Some of the patients required high doses of the anti-overdose drug naloxone.
There were no deaths.
The city says there have been 15 life-threatening or potentially life-threatening drug overdose cases over the last 72 hours.
The hospital is reminding people that if naloxone is administered to any individual in the community, they should be taken to emergency for further treatment.
