Ottawa has made it to the second phase of the bid process to host the 2021 Canada Summer Games following a visit by the event's Technical Review Committee last month.
The committee also visited Sudbury, the Niagara Region, and the area of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph who pitched a combined bid.
All communities were given the opportunity to advance to the next round.
In a written statement, Councillor Jody Mitic says hosting the games, its athletes and their supporters would give local business a significant boost.
Comprehensive bid proposals are due at the end of January.
