Friends on Facebook are remembering Derrick Crowder as a "sweet teddy bear", one of the kindest people they know, now trying to come to grips with his murder.
31-year-old Crowder was well known in Ottawa, especially in the football world. He was once a member of the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Ottawa Sooners football clubs.
Crowder was gunned down outside a McDonald's around 9:30 Sunday night in Montreal’s residential Cote-des-Neige neighbourhood, just beside the bustling downtown area.
He suffered at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
When police arrived they say he refused to cooperate, giving them no information on the shooter.
Crowder died later in hospital.
Investigators say he was known to police.
