Quebec Provincial Police say a 30-year-old Ottawa man is facing the possibility of several charges, in addition to thousands of dollars in traffic tickets, after a Canada Day police chase.
Police say they attempted to pull over a motorcycle driver in the westbound lanes of Highway 50 in Gatineau at around 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Police allege the driver took off, made a U-turn into the eastbound lanes and then crashed his bike on the interchange with Highway 5.
Police were able to arrest him and take him to the Sûreté du Québec police station.
Police say they found 3500 suspected methamphetamine tablets on the man, as well as small amounts of cocaine, hashish, and GHB, along with $2,000 in cash.
The man’s been released on a promise to appear in a Gatineau courtroom in October. Police say he could be facing charges of fleeing police, dangerous driving, and drug possession for the purposes of trafficking.
He’s also facing $3,765 in fines in connection with various traffic offenses related to his driver’s license and motorcycle license plate.
His bike has been impounded for 30 days.
