Ottawa Police have identified and charged a woman caught texting behind the wheel in a video shot by a motorcyclist that went viral.
The woman agreed to surrender to police.
She's been charged with careless driving, distracted driving and failure to note a change of address. These carry more than $1,000 in fines and up to 9 demerit points.
The recording - watched by more than 1.5 million people - shows a biker scolding an SUV driver who is using her phone at a Woodroffe intersection.
The two nearly collide at one point.
Earlier this week, Traffic Sergeant Mark Gatien said there were complications due to the SUV's plate being out-of-province.
Police say no charges will be laid against the motorcyclist.
On CFRA's Ottawa Now Thursday, Constable Phil Kane discouraged people from following in the motorcyclist's footsteps when it comes to filming and confronting drivers.
"If you see an infraction, take down the driver description and license plate along with where you saw it," said Kane. "An online complaint gets assigned to one of the 12 district traffic officers across the city."
