Time lost due to Injuries while on duty ballooned last year among members of the Ottawa Police Service.
In a report to be presented to next Monday's Police ServicesĀ Board meeting, the service reports the number of cases where injured or ill members had to take time off was up only one per cent from 2015.
But the length of time they were away from work jumped by 71% to an average of 294 hours, or about 37 eight-hour days.
That saw the cost to the department jump from $2.6-million in 2015 to $3.3-million last year.
Almost four out of ten injuries suffered by officers resulted from them pursuing, arresting, or otherwise interacting with what the service calls "non-compliant individuals."
One-quarter occurred during training activities.
