With one week to go before the official start of winter, the weather is certainly letting us know what's in store.
Ottawa Public Health has issued its first frostbite advisory of the season.
Temperatures are expected to drop well-below seasonal averages on Thursday and Friday, with an overnight low into Thursday morning of -15°C - about 4° colder than average, and the daytime high Thursday will be only -13°C, with is 10° colder than normal.
Thursday night will be even worse. It's expected to get as cold as -25°C, with a wind chill around -33. That will make the morning trip to work and school on Friday very cold. The daytime high Friday is forecast to be -10°C, still about 7° colder than normal.
But wait, there's more.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the weekend, advising that a "significant" amount of precipitation is expected Friday night and Saturday. Precipitation totals have not yet been predicted. On Monday, meteorologist Geoff Coulson told CFRA drivers on Saturday morning should expect delays due to the expected overnight snowfall.
On Wednesday evening, another advisory was issued, advising of blowing snow and reduced visibility Wednesday night.
