A banner will be raised at the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday night to honour Daniel Alfredsson.
Number 11 will be retired, the first retirement in the modern version of the Ottawa Senators.
Alfredsson played with the Senators for 17 seasons, 13 of those as captain of the team.
TSN's Gord Wilson explained that even to this day, Alfie is the face of the franchise because of his accomplishments both on and off the ice.
"What he has meant to this hockey club has been so much, he put his stamp on the organization obviously,” said Wilson. “But to become the first European born captain to lead a team into a Stanley Cup finals is something pretty special."
He also remarked on the charity work done by Alfredsson over the year and his mental health campaign "You Know Who I Am" with the Royal.
The anti-stigma and advocacy campaign was designed to facilitate open conversations about mental illness.
A special ceremony will be held at the Canadian Tire Centre starting at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
