The Peace Tower was lit up gold Saturday night as part of the Gold on the Hill event to raise awareness of childhood cancers.
The event brings together young survivors, patients, and their families to call for a national strategy for treating cancer in children.
Jenny Doull lost her five-year-old daughter Phoebe Rose to leukemia last November. She says the event provides a chance to educate about the realities of childhood cancer.
"There's a lack of funding. We only have three per cent of all federal research funding," she told CTV News Saturday. "Many children with cancer although they do survive they suffer devastating life-threatening side effects."
Leukemia survivor and local radio personality Stuntman Stu Schwartz attended the event. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau also brought a message on behalf of her husband Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"We've had a lot of support from the federal government, from the Liberal Party and Justin Trudeau," Doull said. "We just hope that the support continues and that people are listening."
This year's event marked the fourth for Gold on the Hill.
