The Ontario government has activated its disaster recovery assistance program to help those affected by last week's devastating floods.
The program will help to cover uninsured damage costs.
Steve Seller, a municipal advisor for the Ontario government, says the funding is only available if your primary residence was affected, meaning those whose cottages have been damaged won’t get any help from the province.
While the program is available to anyone affected, there are likely to be some gaps as reimbursements for some expenses are capped.
“The program is not intended to be a substitute for insurance,” Seller says. “We’re encouraging people to check with their insurance companies now just to make sure what’s covered, what isn’t covered.”
More than one thousand people across the national capital region have been affected in Ottawa, Arnrprior, Rockland, Gatineau, and several other areas.
