The province has made moves that appear to put Ottawa closer to having a safe drug injection site.
Queen's Park has announced it will fund three sites in Toronto at an estimated annual cost of $1.6-million along with about $400,000 to create the spaces.
Health Minister Eric Hoskins spoke to Toronto Mayor John Tory today to say the province backs that city's plan.
In a statement, Hoskins says the government is also developing a provincial framework in order to respond to proposals in Ottawa and other municipalities.
Here in the Capital, the Sandy Hill Community Centre is planning to apply to set up a safe injection site.
Last week, Mayor Jim Watson indicated the health board would have authority when it comes to city support.
