A public school in the small eastern Ontario farming community of Dalkeith has been ranked one of the top elementary schools in Ontario.
The Fraser Institute has released its annual Report Card on Ontario’s Elementary Schools. It ranks 2,900 English and French Public and Catholic Schools, and a number of independent schools, based on nine academic indicators from results of the annual province-wide reading, writing and math tests.
Laggan Public School in Dalkeith tied for first in the overall ranking, with a perfect score of 10.
The Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School in Vanier was the top ranked school in Ottawa at 25th.
St. Gregory Elementary School was ranked 35th, and La Source school in Orleans was 62nd.
The Fraser Institute says Our Lady of Victory in Ottawa also performed above average in math "even though more than 60 per cent of the students have special needs."
