The provincial government has confirmed it plans to double the allotment of gas tax revenues handed over to municipal transit systems.
Premier Kathleen Wynne said the increase will be implemented in stages between 2019 and 2021.
Wynne toild a news conference that Ontario need to invest in public transit to keep up with our growing population.
"WHat we're building is a seamless network of reliable, low-carbon transportation options - because that is what we need to improve peoples' day-to-day lives and to keep our economy competitive," she said.
Wynne said, with people leading such busy lives, improving public transit will also help improve our quality of life.
"You want to get home to your family sooner, so you can have that time that is the most precious time in your day."
By 2021-22, Ottawa's share of provincial gas tax revenue is expected to reach $66-million.
