It's a late start, but navigation season has begun on the Rideau Canal.
There's still a catch: the only locks that have opened so far are a fair distance away from Ottawa.
The season was delayed by a week due to high water, keeping the locks closed to anyone who approached them in any way other than on foot.
The locks that are ready for boats are far to the southwest of Ottawa.
Parks Canada says it will open each station as soon as it is safe to do so.
