Ottawa Seantors goalie Craig Anderson's wife, Nicholle, has been diagnosed with cancer, the team's management announced Saturday.
An emotional Sens General Manager Pierre Dorion says Anderson has rejoined the team after a short personal leave but has not yet made a decision on whether he will play in Sunday's game against Edmonton.
He says it was Nicholle who encouraged her husband to join his teammates.
"She was the one who said 'Craig, your teammates need you right now,'" Dorion said. "We have everyone's support here. I think this is a tremendous gesture on behalf of Nicholle Anderson."
Dorion says Binghampton Senators goalies Chris Driedger and Matt O'Connor will stay with the team for the time being as alternate Sens goalie Andrew Hammond is injured.
The team did not specify what kind of cancer Nicholle has been diagnosed with. Dorion says any further updates will come from the couple should they choose to address the media in the coming days.
