The Insurance Bureau of Canada says last month’s tornadoes in eastern Ontario and western Quebec did hundreds of millions of dollars in damage.
The IBC released the figures Tuesday while promoting its sponsorship of an upcoming event to honour first responders.
The IBC says the tornadoes in Ottawa-Gatineau caused more than $295 million in insured damage to homes, businesses and vehicles.
Environment Canada confirmed that six tornadoes touched down in the region September 21, hitting places like Calabogie, Dunrobin, Arlington Woods, and the Gatineau neighbourhood of Mont-Bleu the hardest.
Dozens of homes and businesses were destroyed or severely damaged, while hundreds of thousands of people lost power for days.
The IBC says it is supporting the upcoming Ottawa Symphony Orchestra event at City Hall called the “3D StrongTheory Experience.” The event, to be held November 4, features eight women playing 3D-printed string instruments.
