The SIU confirms the man was shot by a police officer. He was rushed to hopsital in life-threatening condition where he later died.
Ottawa Police say they were called to the area at around 7:53 a.m. Thursday for a report of a suspicious person.
The suspect was armed and, at some point during an interaction with the Ottawa Police, he was shot and an officer was injured.
The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate in this case -- as they do whenever police in Ontario are involved in a situation in which someone is seriously hurt or killed or alleges sexual assault.
The injured officer was treated for a minor injury and released from the hospital.
