The province's police watchdog has been called in to investigate the police-involved shooting death of a man Saturday morning in Timmins.
The Special Investigations Unit says Timmins police officers were called to the Emergency Medical Services building to deal with a man.
The man allegedly fled, and officers followed him. There was an interaction between the man and the officers, leading to one of the officers shooting his gun.
The man was struck. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Three investigators and three forensic investigators are on the case.
The SIU is called in any time there is a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault involving police in Ontario.
