Ontario's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is turning to the public for tips after it was forced to put down a cat found dehydrated and underweight underneath a pile of boxes in a dumpster last week.
A female, long-haired tabby found last week and was "humanely euthanized due to the condition she was found in," near an apartment building on Carling Avenue between Grenon and Moore Avenues, according to an SPCA press release. The animal was wearing a frayed, red collar inside a plastic dog carrier with a brown bottom and a cream-coloured top. The 15-year-old cat was found to be suffering from diabetes.
"There is no excuse for failing to care for your animals," says Jennifer Bluhm, Deputy Chief Inspector with the SPCA. "If you find yourself in a position where you can no longer care for your animals, contact your local Ontario SPCA animal centre or humane society to discuss your options."
Anyone with information is asked to call 310-SPCA (7722).
