Ottawa's Butterfly Child, Jonathan Pitre, is getting a stem cell transplant.
The transplant is part of a life-altering treatment the 16-year-old is receiving in Minnesota for his blistering skin condition.
Pitre is coming off of nine straight days of chemotherapy and radiation.
His mother, Tina Boileau, is donating bone marrow.
She explained to CTV Morning Live that Thursday would be 'Day Zero' for the entire procedure.
"The idea is that once he gets my cells, his body should be starting to produce the collagen seven, which is a protein that holds his skin together," she explained. "So he should have reduced blistering and some of the wounds should start healing."
Pitre is the first Canadian to receive this kind of treatment.
