Students in Ottawa will be paying special tribute to survivors of Canada's Residential School system on Friday, by wearing orange.
September 30 in Canada has been declared Orange Shirt Day.
Students and staff at Kanata's Glen Cairn Public School will be wearing orange shirts in honour of Phyllis Webstad, and to recognize all people who were forced into Residential Schools throughout our nation's history.
Webstad was given an orange shirt by her grandmother before her first day of residential school and she never forgot the significance of it.
More than 150,000 First Nation, Inuit, and Métis children were forced to attend these schools.
Orange Shirt Day originated in B.C. and is marked across the country.
