After spending just over an hour on the picket lines on Monday morning, CUPE 4600 announced that a tentative deal had been reached.
The union was in talks with the University regarding Contract Instructors and Teaching assistants.
They had been in talks for months but they were in a legal strike position at midnight.
Job security was at the heart of the talks as more than one third of all teaching on Carleton's campus is being done by contact instructors who do not have tenure.
The last time there was job action at Carleton University was in 2014 when the school's security staff went on strike.
No word on any of the details included in the tentative deal.
