The government is looking to make highway travel safer for bus customers.
Transport Canada says all medium amd large highway buses built on or after Sept. 1 of 2020 will be required to install seatbelts for all riders.
Medium and large buses are defined as having a weight over 4,536 kg.
Minister of Transport Marc Garneau says they know these changes can help reduce injuries in severe collisions, especially in rollovers.
The new requirement will not apply to school buses.
