The OPP confirms a truck driver was killed in a fiery, explosive collision early this morning on the 401 near Gananoque.
Police investigators say a westbound tractor trailer struck a stationary safety truck at a road construction site at around 5:30 a.m.
The transport burst into flames, and several area fire departments had to be called in to fight the blaze. The tractor trailer was completely destroyed while the safety truck was heavily damaged.
It isn't believed any construction workers were at the scene when the crash happened.
The driver was the only person in the transport.
The Westbound lanes of the highway remained closed in the area until around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
