The main route to Cumberland and further east of the Capital returned to service this morning but will shut down again this evening.
The City of Ottawa closed the 174 in both directions between Trim Road and Cameron Street last night due to soil erosion.
City crews managed to stabilize the road bed in time for the Tuesday morning rush hour.
However, Councillor Stephen Blais says the stretch will close again at 7 p.m. for reapair work to continue.

In Gatineau, two lanes of Highway 50 westbound have reopened from De La Gappe to Highway 5 - but speeds have been limited to 50 kph.
Officials continue to ask area residents to avoid using the bridges over the Ottawa River so they can be used by first responders.
The STO says it will offer free bus service for the foreseeable future.
