Ottawa Paramedics one of two motorcyclists injured in crashes Sunday evening has died of his injuries.
George "Rick" Ellas, 59, was gravely injured when his Honda motorcylce and a Hyundai Accent collided in the west end at around 5:30 p.m. Paramedics say they were called to Eagleson and Fernbank where they found the man had gone into cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead in hospital.
The 47-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital with chest discomfort and is in stable condition.
Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The crash was one of two that took place within in 90 minute span.
At around 7 p.m., paramedics a man in his 40s was thrown "an extreme distance" after colliding with a car at Baseline Road near Clyde Avenue when an off-duty paramedic rendered aid to the man until on-duty crew arrived. The man was transported to the trauma centre with severe, life-threatening, multi-system trauma. He also suffered significant head, chest, and extremity injuries and required airway management with ventilation support and intravenous fluid support.
The elderly driver of the car was taken to hospital in stable condition with minor seatbelt trauma.
Ottawa Police are investigating both collisions.
Sunday was a violent day on Ottawa's roads, with a 47-year-old cyclist suffering serious injuries after he was struck by a car in the east end.
