A 17-year-old boy has been charged after multiple schools were put on lockdown in Barrhaven Tuesday afternoon following reports of a male being seen with a gun.
Calls were made from Mother Teresa High School on Longfields Dr. and all schools in the area were placed on lockdown as a precaution as a large team of officers rushed to the scene.
Police say a replica handgun was found in a backpack and a student was arrested in the library.
The emergency measures were lifted for most schools after a short time, however security protocol continued at Mother Teresa.
Students waited in classrooms while parents stood outside despite the lockdown being lifted.
The teen is charged with possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and mischief.
Police say no student, staff member or teacher was threatened with the weapon and there were no injuries.
The student was released to his parent's custody with a promise to appear in court on November 15th.
