A family of three -- soon to be four -- is now homeless after a blaze destroyed their home and everything in it.
And now, friends are fundraising to help the family recover some of what they lost.
It's not yet known what caused the fire at 6703 Dwyer Hill Road, just south of Roger Stevens Drive, Wednesday afternoon. An investigation is underway.
Firefighters were called to the area at 12:55 p.m. No one was home at the time.
According to a recently launched GoFundMe page, the mother, Kirsten, is due in six weeks. She and her boyfriend Mikie had just finished the nursery for the new baby.
Firefighters say they were able to contact one of them shortly after crews arrived on scene, to confirm home was unoccupied. Fire crews were also told that there was hunting ammunition inside the building. Firefighters could hear it exploding when they arrived, a sound they describe as "similar to fireworks."
There were also propane tanks nearby that were cooled with water until it was safe to turn them off and move them away from the burning home.
No one has been reported hurt.
Ottawa Firefighters had the blaze under control by 2:16 p.m.
The Salvation Army and the Red Cross have been called in to assist the family.
