Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate after a 35-year-old pedestrian was struck by a dump truck at the corner of Rideau Street and King Edward Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Ottawa Paramedics say the man was in serious but stable condition when he arrived in hospital, suffering from leg injuries.
The SIU says Ottawa Police Service officers on foot patrol were investigating a group of individuals near the intersection of King Edward Avenue and Rideau Street, when one man fled.
An officer gave chase, before the man was struck by the northbound truck, around 3:00 p.m.
The SIU says four investigators have been assigned to this incident.
The Special Investigations Unit is called in whenever police in Ontario are invovled in an incident in which someone is seriously hurt or killed, or alleges sexual assault.
