The Special Investigations Unit is now investigating the circumstances around the crash.
The SIU says their investigation has so far suggested some slightly different information. They say that Ottawa Police officers were conducting radar checks on Hunt Club Wednesday evening, and briefly stopped a speeding car around 6:30 p.m. The car then fled, according to the SIU, and police officers followed. It was some time afterwards that the vehicle rolled over in the Pike Street and Maple Park Private area. The SIU then says the driver and another passenger fled the scene on foot, while a 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Ottawa Police told CTV News they were not involved in a chase.
Ottawa Fire had said Wednesday they were called at around 6:12 p.m. to assist in extricating a patient who was trapped in the car, and that the trapped individual was successfully removed from the car by 6:30 p.m.
The SIU is called in whenever police are involved in an incident in which someone is hurt or killed, or alleges sexual assault.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
