More than 700 Vanier residents and business owners have signed petitions opposing the new proposed site for a Salvation Army shelter.
The Salvation Army is planning a multipurpose facility at 333 Montreal Road.
Drew Dobson, the owner of the nearby Finnigan's Pub, says the group known as SOS Vanier wants the planning process to be more transparent.
"My property is on that block," he says. "I'm a member of the [business improvement area]. I'm a member of the Vanier community. I would have thought one of these organizations would reach out and somehow I'd have some inclination that this was going on."
Dobson says the planning for the facility has been largely behind closed doors with no public meetings or discussions about the issue.
Opposed residents are holding a demonstration tonight to oppose the move.
