Residents in Munster say their tap water has been colourful.
Several posts on the Munster Community Association Facebook Group have complained about tap water coming out anywhere from yellow to amber. One post almost looks like a glass of beer.
In an emailed statement, City of Ottawa Director of Water Services Tammy Rose says work on the watermains is to blame.
“Earlier this week, the City of Ottawa Water Services performed a remedial flushing of watermains in Munster,” Rose says. “Residents may have experienced discoloured water from an increase in iron sediments as a result of this work.”
Rose says the discolouration has been reported, but there are no concerns for the safety of the water.
“The discoloured water and flushing process have no impact on the safety or quality of the drinking water."
The administrator of the Munster Community Association Facebook Page, Dave Tellier, says a city technician came to his home, and a few others, to take water samples.
In a comment on one of the posts, Rideau-Goulborn councillor Scott Moffatt says the flushing of the system took place on July 19, in response to ongoing reports about discolouration.
Moffatt maintained the water is safe to drink, but it may stain clothing if used to do laundry. He says the City will offer free stain removal products to anyone who may need it. Residents are asked to call 311 if their clothes have been stained or if the discolouration persists.
