There are lots of summertime activities to keep you busy this weekend.
Saturday is the annual "Gatineau Riverfest," put on by the Friends of the Gatineau. It runs from 1 until 9 pm on Saturday at Farm Point located at the Chelsea Community Centre, 331 Ch. de la Riviere.
Saturday also marks the annual "Kitchissippi Flotilla" at the Ottawa Rowing Club, 10 Lady Grey Drive. Events include 150 ORC rowers taking to the Ottawa River in eights, quads, fours, doubles, pairs and singles, to travel downriver past the Prime Minister’s residence, then back up to the ORC’s historic boathouses. The event runs from 9 am to 2 pm.
It's Trivia Night Saturday night at the Diefenbunker, Canada's Cold War Museum. It's their first-ever, and the theme is 'the Sixties', and the height of the Cold War and of course, the decade in which the Diefenbunker opened. They encourage you to dress up in your favourite 60's inspired attire! The event runs from 7 pm to 10 pm and tickets must be purchased in advance.
Saturday also marks "Trophy" day in the Byward Market. A living installation of 150 light-filled tents, Trophy will take over George Street on June 17th. Inside the tents are storytellers waiting to share a moment that transformed their life. 1 pm to 11 pm.
RallyCross comes to Ottawa Saturday and Sunday, with Red Bull's Global RallyCross Ottawa at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum. The world’s best drivers will be battling for the championship in 600 horsepower Supercars, tackling a mix of dirt, tarmac and table-top jumps. The events begin at 11:30 am both days. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.
The Goulbourn Museum is marking Sunday with a "Father's Day Flashback." The evening allows you to stand in the shoes of Goulbourn’s early Irish settlers at this celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary. Connect with the culture of the community’s past with traditional Irish music, musket demos, sword fighting and historical re en-actors. Activities are on from 10 am to 3 pm.
Sunday is also the day the Cumberland Heritage Museum holds it's "Popular Mechanics" event. Discover the inventors and inventions that changed the lives of people in the 1920s and 1930s. Learn how a long distance call was made and how electricity changed the workman’s tools. Open from 10 am to 4 pm.
If Dad loves cars, then the annual Vintage Car Show at the Billings Estate National Historic Site is the place to be on Sunday. Meet car owners proud to display and chat about their antique vehicles, and see the Billings family Cadillac! Take a tour of the site, play games on the lawn, and listen to live music while you enjoy a BBQ lunch. Tickets are available at the door. It's on from 10:15 am to 4 pm.
For lovers of fine art, the Nepean Fine Arts League's annual Volunteers Exhibition is on for one last weekend. The exhibit is at the Atrium Gallery at Ben Franklin Place in Nepean, and is open from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and from 1 to 5 pm on Sunday.
And the annual Italian Week Festival continues through the weekend. Performers, activities, and food all concentrated in and around Preston Street.
