It’s the first weekend of Winterlude! There are dozens of events on every day between February 3 and 20, with a majority taking place on weekends.
You can find events all over the National Capital Region. There are festivities at Lansdowne Park, Confederation Park and Jacques-Cartier Park, as well as the ByWard Market, Marion Dewar Plaza and the Canadian Museum of History.
The official Winterlude Kickoff Party begins at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Confederation Park. This event is free.

The Arena at TD Place hosts this weekend’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first-round tie between Canada and Great Britain. Matches will be played on an indoor hard court and will be the first ever tennis event held at the venue. The Davis Cup runs February 3 to 5. You can also check out Animal tracking on snowshoes at Gatineau Park. Every weekend until March 12. In English: Saturday at 1:30 pm; Sunday at 10:30 am In French: Saturday at 10:30 am; Sunday at 1:30 pm. What animal made these tracks in the snow? How do animals survive in the winter? Take a free guided snowshoe hike with a nature interpreter, and find out. Snowshoes are provided for this free, two-hour activity.
Do you want to break a world record? The Canadian Ski Patrol is looking for volunteers to break a Guinness World Record for making the most snow angels at the same time in multiple locations. The current record is 15,851. In the Ottawa-Gatineau area you’re asked to be at either Parliament Hill, Mont Cascades, or Mont Ste-Marie by 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
