For the first time, Scouts Canada is partnering with the Canadian Red Cross to offer free introductory first aid training to Canadian youth between the ages nine to 16 to bring the spirit of Good Turn Week to communities from coast to coast. Participants will learn how to prevent injury, compression only CPR, assess an emergency and respond in a first aid or emergency situation while keeping themselves safe.

Spring is kicking off with the annual Alive to Strive Race on April 30 at Hog’s Back Park and the Terry Fox Athletic Facility.
The race is the main fundraiser for the Alive to Strive Kidney Fitness Project, a local non-profit organization that offers fitness grants to patients of the Ottawa Hospital who are on dialysis or with kidney function below 30 per cent.
Participants can choose from the 1km, 5km, 10km walk/run, the 5km Team Challenge, and the 5km Wheelchair Race.
Runners and walkers will gather on Sunday, April 30th for the 26th annual Mandarin MS Walk. This year’s MS Walk will take place at 70 Colombine Driveway, Tunney’s Pasture.
The Mandarin MS Walk is the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada’s largest and most visible national fundraising activity, with Walks taking place in over 160 communities across Canada throughout April and May. The Ottawa Mandarin MS Walk has raised $6.1 million dollars since its inception in 1992. This year organizers are hoping to raise $272,000. This year’s Walk festivities will kick off at 10:30 am.
