New Years' celebrations dominate this weekend, as we see out the old year and ring in 2017.
The dawn of Canada's 150th birthday party sees a massive celebration on Parliament Hill New Year's Eve. The show runs from 7 pm to 11 pm, with fireworks set for 8:17 pm (20:17 hours). Be prepared for many street closures in the downtown area. OC Transpo is providing free bus service from 4:30 pm until 3 amn New Year's morning.
The City of Ottawa launches 2017 early, with the official lighting of the 2017 Cauldron at city hall. The ceremony takes place between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
The Scottish Society of Ottawa is holding its 5th annual Hogmanay Celebration. It's at the Aberdeen Pavilion of Lansdowne Park, 5:00 p.m. – Midnight, and admission is free! Fireworks are due at midnight, after a rousing rendition of "Auld Lang Syne."
Councillor Rick Chiarelli's annual Alcohol-free New Year’s Eve is on at Ben Franklin Place in Nepean between 6 pm and 10 pm. Free sleigh rides, music, magic shows, dance showcases, skating parties, and fireworks at 10 pm.
