The City is pulling the plug on the much-maligned “Where Is My Plow” app.
The app launched last winter, promising residents an up-to-date look at when their street would be plowed, synced up with each plow’s GPS system.
However, on the first major snowstorm of the 2015-16 winter season, the app encountered problems. Residents reported getting no answers from the app. Part of this was related to the fact that the app only listed wait times for residential streets and not main arterlials, like Baseline or St. Joseph, or collector roads like Meadowlands.
Speaking on CFRA’s Ottawa Now with Evan Solomon, Kanata North Councillor Marianne Wilkinson says the app was only causing frustration.
“People were getting all sorts of advice, and they said it’d be there in an hour and they didn’t come for five, and various other things,” she says. “If it doesn’t work properly, you don’t want to have it on. Until they can get it working properly, it’s actually better not to have it.”
On Wednesday, the City of Ottawa confirmed the app would be offline for Winter 2016-17. It's unclear if it will be brought back in the future.
