Pothole season is already here and a Windsor city councillor is encouraging residents to call 311 if they spot one.
Ward 2's Fabio Costante says he's been getting more calls and emails recently from residents reporting potholes in the city.
"There's moments throughout the year where I'll see spikes in calls and emails, when the weather goes from freezing temperature to above freezing and it thaws and then you start to see cracks and potholes emerge," says Costante. "I always tell folks if they email me or call me certainly I'm going to relay it to our public works department but the best, more efficient way to deal with these issues is to call 311, make sure that you have a tracking number so that you can reference it anytime you want to check for a status update and then you can forward that tracking number to your councillor so that they can follow up with administration."
Costante says the calls he gets are for potholes in his ward.
"The calls that I get are the ones that are ward specific," says Costante. "So residents that live in my ward that will call or email from time to time but I'm not aware of there being a cluster in one area more than others."
The city offers an online damage claim form if motorists believe the city is responsible for damage due to potholes.
The city’s acting commissioner of corporate services Dana Paladino told CTV Windsor, each claim is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.
She also stated, the number of recent claims related to potholes has increased, and said a risk management report detailing the extent of last year’s pothole problem is expected before council in the near future.
