Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in the Rideau River in Lowertown Monday morning.
A partially-submerged body was spotted by a City of Ottawa worker just before 9 a.m.
The worker was performing a routine sweep of the park for drug material when she and a coworker made the discovery and called 911.
"I went home and I sat on the couch and I looked at my dog and I was like 'I can't believe what I just saw,'" said Ashley Shody. "That poor soul. I can't even wrap my mind around it... Police can do their jobs. They'll figure out what's going on and hopefully the family is notified."
Investigators discovered a sleeping bag and a pillow near the water's edge.
While police have confirmed the body is that of a woman, they have no information on age range.
It's unclear how long the remains were in the water.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
