A new poll suggests Ontario's liberal party would win another majority government if they turf Kathleen Wynne as leader.
The new poll by Mainstreet for Postmedia shows 39 per cent of people would vote for the Liberal Party if it had a new leader. That puts the party four points ahead of the Tories.
Wynne was in Ottawa Thursday to announce funding fore 49 licensed child care spaces at Ecole Elementaire catholique Horizon-Jeunesse in Vanier, where she shrugged off the poll.
"There have been and there will be lots of polls," said Wynne. "The poll that is most significant is the one that happens in 2018 and we are really very focused on delivering results on the plan that we ran on in 2014. We're seeing those results."
Some 34 per cent of people polled strongly disapprove of the job Wynne is doing as premier, while 33 per cent somewhat disapprove.
Associate Minister of Education Indira Naidoo-Harris came to Wynne's defence.
"I want to make it really clear that this is the Premier for us," said Naidoo-Harris. "She's laying the ground work, not just for our children today, but also for tomorrow and the future."
"I think all you have to do as Ontarians out there is take a look at some of the plans she's laying out," she added. "It's not a one-year plan. It's not a two-year plan. Often times it's a five year plan and a 10 year plan."
She pointed out they are only two years into their mandate.
"And I can tell you that two years into a mandate is a time when everybody's looking at what's going on and where the results are," she said. "The results are here. They're coming. This premier is building a solid foundation and framework for all of us and we will benefit from it for years to come."
The announcement of $1.5-million for 49 new child care spots at Horizon-Jeunesse is part of a promise made by the province to create 100,000 new licensed child care spaces for kids aged zero to four.
