The much anticipated Winterlude has kicked it up a notch, adding a handful of new events to the lineup this year.
From North America's first Dragon Boat Festival on ice, the 26th annual stew cook-off, ziplining, and more, the city will join to celebrate Canada's 150th.
The official Winterlude Kick-Off party begins at 7 p.m. on Feb. 3. with a free performance by Karim Ouellet followed by Coleman Hell + DJ Karim Ouellet.
Festival events will be held at the following locations:
Rideau Canal Skateway;
Confederation Park;
Jacques-Cartier Park;
Museum of History; and
Ottawa City Hall
A few events to look forward to:
Canadian Ski Patrol Guinness World Record: Canadian Ski Patrol wants to break the world record for making the most amount of snow angels at the same time, and at multiple locations. CSP Media Relations officer Annie Boucher tells us "breaking the world record for snow angels is really symbolic for the Canadian Ski Patrol. It's a great opportunity to help raise awareness" and for Canadians to rally around the non-profit organization!
When: Saturday Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. (Arrive 15 minutes early)
Where: Parliament Hill, Mont Cascades and Mont Ste-Marie
Snowflake Kingdom at Jacques-Cartier Park: Snow slides, ice sculptures, dogsledding, and a 500-foot zip line zipping over the new "Canada 150" maze. The Ice Hog mascots will also be in attendance.
The Rideau Canal Skateway: Winterlude Triatholon on Feb. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
