The Ontario government will ban the use of bots - computer programs that automatically buy up tickets - with new rules to clean up the ticket-selling situation in the province.
Attorney General Yasir Naqvi said it's time to shake things up and "put fans first."
Naqvi told reporters that public consultations found Ontarians wanted to ban "the software that is used to unfairly buy huge swaths of tickets before fans even get a chance."
Naqvi also said the proposed legislation would also cap the resale price for tickets at 50 % above face value.
"In addition to keeping tickets affordable, this will reduce the incentive for people to buy the tickets, just to re-sell them at a higher price," he said.
There will also be new transparency rules, which will include a ban on hidden fees, a total of the seats available to the public, and a display of the face-value price and seat location.
Naqvi added there will also be higher fines, more enforcement, and a provision to allow consumers to sue ticket providers, in the new legislation.
